Date Night In The Heights

It’s no secret the Houston Heights area is booming! Every time you turn around there is a something new going up and I have to say I’m not complaining. Andrew and I spend on average 5 nights a week out and we are loving all there is to offer!

Recently, we headed out for a Date Night in The Heights and changed it up quite a bit. A friend of mine told me about Opera in The Heights. I looked it up and realized it was so conveniently located right on Heights Blvd between 17th & 18th Street.

We found out Thursday shows tend to have a younger vibe and there’s even “Drinks with the Cast” afterwards at Harold’s on 19th Street. Our tickets were easily booked online, super reasonable I might add, and just like that the first part of our date night was booked!

Since we were coming from work and the show began at 7:30pm, we opted for a nice Happy Hour with apps instead of a full dinner. There are so many places in the area to choose from: 8 Row Flint, Presidio, Wicklow Heights, but we decided on one of our all time favorites – Sonoma Wine Bar

With an absolutely amazing wine list this place is a sure fire spot if you’re a wine drinker! We ALWAYS get the zucchini chips, they’re incredible and their pizzas are delicious as well. Being just a 5 minute drive from the theater is a big plus too!

I recommend getting to the show 20-30 minutes before hand to find parking and get settled in your seats. There isn’t a large dedicated lot, but lots of street parking around the area.

Arriving at the theater is so fun! You will see the orchestra setting up, the stage is set and everyone is taking their seats. We had never been to Lambert Hall before, so we were unsure how the seats would be. It is a smaller theater, so what’s great is ALL of the seats are great! We sat in the balcony though and loved it, would high recommend it!

The show itself was amazing! Think more of musical theater group, not so much one single woman standing at the edge of the stage singing alone. The show we saw “Candide” was so entertaining! The orchestra was fabulous, the singers were so talented and the comedy aspect was too fun!

Opera in The Heights exists to provide a stage for emerging opera performers and to bring affordable opera to the Greater Houston Area. I highly recommend going and supporting The Arts here in Houston, it will be money well spent!

This year’s 2018-2019 Season Productions were recently released and the shows look amazing! Take a look for yourself and consider buying tickets to one show, if not all of them. Enjoy your own, Date Night in the Heights!
