When it comes to Costa Rica, I would have to say my favorite part was the variety of adventurous excursions available to visitors. Below are my top recommended excursions and the companies you can book.
Top Of The World ATV Tour
Company: Flamingo Adventures
Talk about adventure, this was a very exciting excursion! The tour lasts 3.5 hours and takes you up to elevation of 1240 feet – they don’t call it the Top of the World Tour for nothing! The views were INCREDIBLE!!
Our guide, Rafa was they sweetest! He did a great job leading us always knowing exactly where to go – plus doubled as an amazing photographer. We had Rafa to ourselves, as the tour was just the four of us from our group.
Besides the mountain top views, we also were able to drive along the beach as well. Riding on the sand was super fun and of course it was just so cool to be right next to the ocean.
I would recommend one person in your group bringing a backpack to secure to the front of your ATV with some bottled waters, your camera, and to put any other loose things you may have like phones, wallets, etc.
You must wear closed toes shoes, so I brought some old tennis shoes. For comfort, I wore a once piece swimsuit with shorts and fishing shirt tied up. There’s a lot of dust, so be prepared to be covered in it! The helmets provided have plastic that covers your eyes, but bring sunglasses too!
Private Boat Charter
Company: Serendipity Charters
For our group of 10, we booked a half day private charter on their absolutely gorgeous sail boat. The charter departed at 8:30AM and returned at 12:30PM. This was the perfect amount of time.
The sailing was very comfortable and the scenery was beautiful! We were able to anchor at a nearby little island to swim, snorkel and explore the small beach. Snorkeling equipment was also provided which was great.
The captain and his crew were beyond amazing and made sure we always had a drink in hand. The lunch prepared was amazing! Cowboy caviar with chips to start and chicken tacos to follow – so yummy! After lunch, we sailed back in and were able to spot sea turtles and even a hump back whale!
I would highly recommend booking a sailing excursion to really get a great view of the island. You can’t go wrong with Serendipity Charters!
Zip Line Canopy Tour
Company: Flamingo Adventures
The other half of our group zip-lined while we did the ATV’s. The zip liners said they had loads of fun! With 11 different platforms to zip line from they loved flying right through the canopies of the rainforest.
They did mention that the 45 minute drive to get to where the zip-lining started was a bit twisty turny, so keep that in mind if you get car sick and pack something to keep you feeling fresh before the real fun begins!
Comfortable clothes recommended, tennis shoes and if you want to be really cool a GoPro like our friend Cam has on in the picture above.
